Wildflowers

More wonderful wildflowers in warmer months ahead

Spring is almost here, and the Council’s Wildflower and Grasslands Strategy will continue to be delivered this year. The strategy has seen the introduction of beautiful native wildflower meadows across the borough, with over 130 mini wildflower meadows and around 32,000 square metres of wildlife habitat created.

Get behind local community projects

The Cheshire West Crowd provides the opportunity for everyone to put forward community-led projects and attract funding, to make the borough more vibrant, resilient and connected. Incredible Edible Handbridge is one of the projects on a crowdfunding journey, with plans to launch a new Arches Wildlife and Wellbeing Garden.

Council asks for views on electric vehicle charging in the borough

Cheshire West and Chester Council is asking for views on electric vehicle charging in the borough. Uptake of electric vehicles has grown rapidly within the borough over recent years, and there are increasing requests from communities for the Council to provide more charging facilities.

Coastal path

Council secures £43,000 for the England Coast Path project

Following a successful bid, the Council has received a grant of £43,021 from Natural England, to enable the initial planning work for a stretch of the England Coast Path within our borough. The England Coast Path is a 2,700 mile national trail being created by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs through Natural England.

Simple boiler hack could help you save money and energy

Nesta, a charity working on innovations for social good, launched a Money Saving Boiler Challenge last year, encouraging people with a combi boiler to turn down their boiler flow temperature to save money and energy.  According to the charity, reducing your boiler flow temperature to 60 degrees can cut gas use by around 12 per cent.

Schools invited to take part in sustainability competition

Schools and colleges in the borough have until the 31 March 2023 to enter Chester Community Energy Limited's 2023 Sustainability Competition for the chance to win £500 to spend on sustainability initiatives.  The competition is open to for secondary years: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 in state-funded schools and six-form colleges in west Cheshire.

Students set for regional competition, as venture plants seeds of success

Students from the University of Chester have impressed judges with their carbon-cutting seeded cardboard box venture and succeeded in winning a place in the regional final of a competition championing young enterprise. The team has been chosen to represent the university at the North West Final of the Young Enterprise (YE) Start-Up Awards and will compete for the chance to represent the North West at the UK Final.

Gaia at Chester Cathedral

Gaia, a touring artwork which creates the sense of the Overview Effect, is available to view at Chester Cathedral until Sunday 5 March. Measuring six meters in diameter with detailed NASA imagery of the earth’s surface, the installation provides the opportunity to see our planet on this scale, floating in three-dimensions, and also acts as a mirror to major events in society. Entry to view Gaia is free of charge.
