Carnival 2010 – A Personal View PDF Print E-mail

It seems like a long time since we started work on planning the Carnival. We all met up late in 2009. From the start, there was a great team, open minded and determined to have a great event.

Thank-you to everyone who worked so well as a team.

On the day, an army of people turned out at 8am, ready to build a Carnival. The same army reappeared at 4.30 to take everything down and to clean up the field. The Kingsley Army really is a force to be reckoned with. Thank-you, you’re awesome.

Throughout the day, classic cars were coming and going, first on their drive and then joining the procession. They certainly made a big impact when they arrived on the field. When they were all set out they made a great display.

I hope everyone got to see the procession. It was everything a procession should be – colourful, noisy and very lively. I know that a lot of people spent hours planning and making their floats. Well done all of you, they were great. To see them filling Hollow Lane was quite a sight.

The scarecrow competition is becoming a regular fixture. Lots of people have talked about how much fun it is to see them, turning up in gardens all over the village. Judging them was hard, but lots of fun.

The arena was a great focal point. The maypole made a colourful start to the day and the music performances were brilliant. Finally, the dogs took the stage. It’s easy to see why they are so popular.

I want to say a personal and heartfelt thank-you to everyone who was involved with the event. There’s literally a cast of thousands that makes the day work out. There’s a committee, our sponsors, the workers who turn up on the day, the procession and most of all the people who turned out and supported the event. Well done, you cleaned out the bar, the hog roast and the ice cream van!
