The February meeting started with a minute's silence for two of our members who have died, June Grinney and Hazel Goodall. Both will be greatly missed.
Among the notices, it was announced that the 'Bloom of the Month' competition will start in March. The February gathering of the Luncheon Club will be at the Tiger's Head, Norley. Cheshire Federation is celebrating its 90th birthday this year. There is to be a Garden Party at Cholmondeley Castle on 18th May as part of the celebrations.
We felt that spring had come to Kingsley when our speaker Len Tomlinson and his daughter Gail gave us an evening entitled 'A Host of Golden Daffodils' Last year we visited them at Foxwist Green Farm, Whitegate, to see the thousands of daffodils growing on their land, so it was good to see them again and learn more about the many varieties of daffodils and also the extended planting into the woodland at their farm. Len brought slides showing not only many different shapes and colours of daffodils, but also the four generations of his family who work so hard to grow the flowers. He showed us an International Daffodil Register in which 29.000 different daffodils are listed, and gave us details of his Daffodil Walks in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care. He shows visitors his acres of unspoilt daffodils which feature specialised and historical varieties.
Sue Beesley from Bluebell Cottage Gardens will be the speaker at the next meeting on 3 March at 7.30 p.m. in the Community Centre.
