About
The Transition initiative is about building greater resilience in our community in the face of global challenges such as peak oil and climate change. Growing populations, falling energy resources and food shortages will create the ‘perfect storm’ by 2030 says the Government’s Chief Adviser, Prof. John Beddington. In Kingsley there are many local activities and businesses that can all play a part in enabling us to be a more resilient and sustainable community.
For more information on Transition Initiatives and their goals there is an informative web site at http://www.transitiontowns.org/
A steering group for Kingsley has been formed and meet monthly to discuss the way forward.
Our current discussions centre around:
- Encouraging food growing and allotments - The Kingsley Allotment Society has been formed. Read more here.
- Gathering information about local food producers and running a Local produce Market four times a year.
- Developing interaction between our local primary schools and their sustainability projects.
- Researching energy conservation and production. More information can be found here.
- Networking with local groups to promote transition initiative topics.
- Encouraging local business via the village website and Kingsley news. The Directory of local groups and business can be found here.
